Cambridge - Tower Hamlets Link
|
'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' Matthew 25:37-40

the Vision
|
In the past there has been a steady flow of Cambridge and Oxford Christian graduates to East London, coming to serve and live in the area, with the heart to see people coming to know Jesus. One Oxford Graduate Samuel Barnett in the 1880s encouraged Oxford & Cambridge graduates to go, live & serve in the East End he founded Toynbee House which was the first social settlement (community centre). The radical idea behind Toynbee Hall that became the basis for settlement houses throughout England and the US was that middle-class reformers would go to live in the poor neighbourhoods and provide aid. My brother, Eddie Stride who graduated from Cambridge in 2002 felt very much that God had put it on his heart to see this link re-established.

You don’t have to have a heart for the inner city or Tower Hamlets to be a part of this. I really encourage you to be open to God to see if he wants you to be part of this in any shape or form, whether just in prayer or something more… |
