O is for Orange
and October and Other things as well...... Welcome back muso's. Herein begins my series of monthly rants to encourage you and to keep in touch with you about all things musical at CLC. We had our first meeting of the academic year last week and had the pleasing problem of not having enough space or biscuits- may we always have this problem.
For those of you who weren't able to make it, we had a time of prayer and were joined by our esteemed leader Gabriel 'Stipe' Smy who bravely shared an original song with the group.
Big picture stuff, it seems like God is calling us into a bit of a weird ish phase, but the yearning is for something fresh not something formula. There are a lot of new songs being written reflecting the events of our corporate gatherings and its exciting exciting.
At the Lead Musicians meeting last week we decided to strip the song bank back to just 9 songs in a bid to create space and need for the church songwriters to spread their wings. There is a new depth to what we are doing and its exciting exciting
We spent some time reviewing our team values over the past month and we think the humble cucumber still sums up well what we are about. As a team we want to spend the coming year outcasting OBLIGATION and ushering in OWNERSHIP. Owning the responsibility of leading our people in worship as a team and recognising the privilege and the importance about our role here. Owning the job part of our role by learning chord charts, turning up to meetings and practices on time and prepared. Owning a prayer life and a lifestyle that pleases God. Owning a love for the team and a protective heart toward those we are working alongside. I hope you can grab this idea and start to grow it.
It has been exciting exciting also this term to see new faces and people stepping up into new roles. I am convinced that if God has really thrown something in you which is making you want to be a part of the worship team, then He wants to grow you in that. He sure is growing us as a team and stretching me as leader. Im loving it- its spooky and unknown. I find myself having to 'inquire' of Him every step of the way.
During the prayer at our musicians meeting someone prayed that God would begin to birth a fresh distinct sound of true worship in our church. This rang very loudly in my ears and I sense a team vision stirring. I hope you are as excited as I am. October and Ownership and Other things...exciting exciting things The next meeting is Sunday 11th November at our place , so until then ...Over and Out
