Grim, grey grey grey, Grim grey grey grey
I'm trying to find something vaguely musical (and therefore hopeful) about this weather. And look at that, its almost rhythmic in its monotony.
So my monthly rant to you all is upon you, and its going to have a lot to do with the rain.
Despite the astounding amount of general motivation the grim grey grey grey has fostered, we had a ripper musicians meeting last Sunday. First THANKS to the group leaders who took up the challenge of facilitating discussions in instrument groups about how to 'grow in the flow.' ( I truly didn't mean for that to rhyme as well, but now it's there I just can't delete it) Meaning- how to use your role as an instrumentalist in the worship team to sense, work with, know what to do with a flow of worship. So, Matt A, JonC, Adam, Colin.. thanks heaps. There's room for more such workshops in the future, I reckon. For those of you who couldn't make it, if you would like to hear more about what went on during this time, do email me and I will sum it up for you according to your instrument group.
The season of renewal is at its dense point and we have had a depth of musical praise happening which is fresh. The grim grey grey grey is a perfect contrast for me to talk to you about something I have been thinking about a lot recently and thats the latter rain. If this new to you, the bible talks about the former and the latter rain. Its worth a study in itself (which we might just do in the next meeting) but generally the former rain fell before planting season, preparing the ground for good seed to be sown. The latter rains fell just before the harvest. They speak of healing and renewal and reaping of the tears or the work or of any seeds for that matter that have been sown
Hosea 6 :1-3 is what I'm on about. ' Let us return unto the Lord. He has torn us but He will heal us, He has stricken but He will bind up.. and He will come to us like the rain. Like the latter and the former rain to the earth. '
The picture is of a loving God that showers down his love on us, despite our circumstances and best attempts to clothe ourselves in wet weather gear. I also love the gentleness that all this imagery invokes. That our great God does massive works in peoples (our!) lives with the gentleness of soft rain. His love for you will eventually drench you if you stand out under it for long enough.
Musicians be encouraged. May the grim grey grey grey grim grey grey grey remind you today of the love God has for you
