CLC football team runs rampant in cup game

Fortunes are shifting rapidly for CLC football club. After last week's embarrassing defeat by C3, CLC was in action in a cup game on Sunday. The opposition was not one of the regular teams we meet in the Cambridgeshire & Bedfordshire church league, but a Newmarket team competing in the cup. That makes it a bit difficult to guage the performance. Still, CLC's 10 - 0 victory is sure to raise a few eyebrows among the other teams. CLC was fielding one of its strongest lineups in a long time.

Says team captain and manager Sam Goodall: "I feel we have a team that can beat almost anyone in the league, so our present second-from-bottom position in the league is a bit difficult to explain. Things just haven't gone our way in many of the matches. This result really bolsters our confidence before the few remaining matches this season." It's too late to get a good position in the league this year. But could a good cup-run save CLC's season?

The team behind this amazing result was (goals in brackets):

    • Sam Goodall (2)
    • Andy Fenton
    • Joe Dzubiella (1)
    • David Tew
    • Peter Galek
    • Chris Joseph (1)
    • Ian McLoughlin (3)
    • Paul O'Donnell (3)
    • Jay (sub, on for Adam?)
    • Matt Negus
    • Mike Farrington
    • Joar Vatnaland (sub, on for Peter)
    • Adam Cullingham

Matt and Sam had each their half in goal, as we did not have any of our regular goalkeepers. Obviously great performance by Ian and Paul, who both got a hat-trick. Sam's two goals become even more impressive in light of him being in goal during the second half. Peter was unstoppable on the left wing during the first half he was playing. Mike was fighting like a hero on the midfield. Adam opened his customary knee wound. Great performance also by those not mentioned.

Well done lads! Keep those sort of scorelines going and we'll soon catch up with Leeds!

"Can a good cup run save CLC's season?" err... no actually, this article was just a bit late in being published. C3 won the cup - D'oh!
