Andrew in Africa

southafrica3

Over the Christmas vacation I was invited to go on Mission to South Africa between 1st and 11th April 2006.

The purpose of this is to -

  1. Help in the running a 5-day Children’s camp for under-privileged children in townships of Owa Owa.
  2. Support a literacy programme to be started for the children, which started in 2005.
  3. Support the work that has begun there, by encouraging the staff and the children through our street ministry.

After praying about this and meeting with the Youth Pastor of my home church (Emmanuel Christian Centre, Walthamstow) I feel this is a God given opportunity which although involves a significant amount of background work, in addition to my university work I feel this is what has called me to do so I know that it can be done!

In order for this to happen I will need to raise £500, and here comes the BIG challenge within the next 2 weeks. My fundraising will therefore take a six-pronged attack!

  1. A sponsored bike ride  - 56 miles from London to Cambridge (Pretty straight forward...not! But I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!)
  2. The “So you call yourself a business person” Challenge - (It works like this, I give you a reasonable small amount of money (between £2-5), you take it and make it bigger...think your up 4 it! Go on!)
  3. (E.B.S 4 S.A) Stands for "E-bay support for south Africa" – the wonders of technology (So its after Christmas and you know you have stuff that you don't really need, sell it on e-bay and then allow some or all of the money to send me to South Africa!)
  4. Seeking college grant/bursary support (Please pray for this got a couple of meeting already lined up!)
  5. Asking my the church for support
  6. Contacting Christian mission bursary/grant schemes (Quite difficult in the small amount of time! But God will provide a way!)

This is where YOU can get involved and play a significant part in me gettiing to South Africa!

Firstly, praying for the fundraising and for God’s will to be accomplished in South Africa, protection for team and for the a real effectiveness while we are in South Africa.

And secondly, financially by sponsoring, e-baying, getting involved in the challenges…

Thanks, God Bless, and please get involved!

hey andrew, dont know if you know already but the henry martyn trust in cambridge gives away bursaries for short term mission trips every easter and summer vac. i think the deadline's passed for easter, but its worth checking it out with Sue Anderson who works there. s.anderson@constructionplus.net
Maybe they could allocate you money for the summer ones even though you're going at easter. Normally they're about £100 although they can be a little bit more than that.

If God's in it, it'll totally all come in.

It's great how you have such a strong faith in God. May He bless you with the provisions you need and really fire you up with His passion for the people over in South Africa. Continue to be the man of God that you are!

I thank God for young people who are prepared to make such huge sacrifices to be obedient to the call of God. I am from SA and know the poverty and spiritual darkness found in some areas. I know its over but I prayed for you while you were there. PS. I'm also at ECC
