Exploring the GLORY of God

As we come into 2003 we are realising that the cry of Moses still echoes down the millennia, and shouts in the fore front of our times “Yahweh – we want to see your GLORY”.   Above anything else, this is the highest pursuit.

These outline notes explore what it means to explore more of God for who He is into this new year.

Introduction - Pursuing the Glory of God

Exodus 33: 15-18

Moses cry to God…”Please, show me your glory”

What is the 'The Glory of God'?

- encapsulates His whole essence – the very being of who He is
- The weightiness of His very Presence - “Name carries weight”

‘Yahweh’ - He Who Is, ‘One who causes to be’ or “I will be what I will be”

– Glory is the sum total of God’s Attributes.

To seek God’s Glory is in heart unselfish, it is not asking for anything I can get from Him, it is a heart cry for ‘God to be God’.  It is asking Him to do what He pleases, for Him to be Himself.

John 11:40 “did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?”

This Study Highlights Two aspects of God:

A) God is Father.

This is what 'Yahweh' becomes to me through Jesus Christ!!

3 things to consider:

1) In 2003 - Move from a place of childlike dependence to an appreciation and awareness that He is also YAHWEH!!

2) Your Father, ‘Yahweh’ – is with you going into this New Year.

The one who will never desert you
The All-powerful one   The All-sufficient one

Psalm 121

“Lift up your eyes to the hills, from whence comes my help, my help comes from the Maker of the heavens and the earth”

3) God lives and exists beyond our created realm
     The Transcendence of God

He has the quality of being able to go beyond normal limits or boundaries – God exists outside and beyond our small fretful worlds.  There is a Greater one to anchor the security of our lives on!

Isaiah 55: 8-9

“My ways are higher than your ways”

There are times when we can be surprised by God’s Involvement in our lives!!

B) The God of Surprises!

Proverbs 16:9  -
“A mans mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps and makes then
sure”

Psalm 37: 23,24 –
“The steps of a righteous man are ordered of God”

I believe God is saying to us…

This year be open for some SURPRISES from God – don’t be so set on your own agendas and plans!!

Here are some Biblical Characters who discovered this aspect of God!

Zechariah – John the Baptist
Noah – Building a Boat
David’s appointment as king
Paul – Encounter with Jesus that turned his life upside down
Jesus’ resurrection and Pentecost – Surprised the first disciples

Things can happen in our lives that seem shocking or devastating, but God can step in and turn them around for good and open up new horizons!

So in conclusion:

God is our father

i) Moving from childlike awareness of Father to knowing who the Father is

ii) Your heavenly Father is going with you into 2003

iii) Remember that God lives beyond the normal limits and boundries...

God is the God of surprises!

Psalm 37:4

A Promise:  As we delight ourselves in the Lord – He will give
us the secret petitions of our heart!

awesome. I found myself while worshipping at The Call at the end of last year just crying out for God's glory to come down when I didn't really know what I was praying. I love it when God does that. this article is really helpful Tim - cheers. How hungry are we for God's Kingdom, Power and Glory to come on Earth as they are in heaven? I really want to try and let God be himself in me, not restrict him. I agree with you Tim, I have a sense that this will be a year of surprises if we let Him! let rip Lord...
