City Life Ladies 2 - 2 Norwich City Baptist Ladies

The fame of City Life Womens FC had spread far and wide following their debut at the Cambridge Mini World Cup in June. Norwich City Baptist Church Womens FC travelled down to play a friendly on 27th September. They faced a truly international team consisting of:

Goalkeeper:   Katharine Lingwood

Defence:         Fuzz (Australia)

                        Alicia

                        Helen P

                        Eva (Norway)

Attack:            Cat Rees

                        Anna (Norway)

                        Fiona Green (Luton)

City Life had a lot to live up to following their two defeats and no goals at the Mini World Cup. Keen to look the part, they borrowed the men’s teams discarded shirts (why did you ever think pink and purple was a good look?). Undeterred, after some drills and encouraging words from our own Mike Farrington (ref), City Life took to the field with determination.

The first half was mostly about getting to know each other for City Life as the two Norwegian girls had only kicked a football for the first time at the Thursday training session and had been roped into playing as they’re living with the Andersons! Despite this, Cat was first on the score sheet, after about 5 minutes, following some great moves involving Fiona. 1-0

Unfortunately, this fired up the Norwich girls who responded on the break to level the score. 1-1 Time and again, City Life found they were great at winning the ball but great at giving it away again. If anyone would like to teach us how to pass to someone on your own team, we’d love to learn. More bad news followed just before the whistle when a mix up in defence allowed Norwich to go ahead. 1-2

In the absence of a coach, a democratic team talk fired us up and congratulations go to Cat for remembering which way we were shooting. The second half was end to end stuff with both teams creating chances but unable to finish. Both Alicia and Fiona managed to take girls out and someone even managed a header! In the dying minutes there was a scramble in the Norwich goalmouth and eventually Cat scored again. 2-2 Both teams tried to kill the match off but it wasn’t to be and it ended in a draw. Special mention must go to Ed who came to support us for the last 10 minutes.

Ah it was good craic.
We are already in training for the serious grudge match though:

City Life Church Cambridge vs. City Life Church Luton

Name a time, Cat, and we'll be there.
