‘Absolutely brilliant!’
‘Challenging!’
‘Immensely motivating!’
The LICC (London Institute of Contempory Christianity) have just published a fantastic article on the mission of the church in twenty-first century Britain. If you are interested in how the national church can better serve the needs of its members and equip them to be sent out to fulfill the Great Commission then it is well worth a read.
The report outlines some of the key changes which would be necessary in order for the church to reach out more effectively to our generation and our nation. It is non-judgemental and balanced whilst being genuinely honest about the situation which we now find ourselves in. It pin-points some of the ways that the church has often failed to facilitate culturally relevant and practical ways to live a radical, Jesus-following lifestyle.
I love this article because it is absolutely bursting with hope and creativity about how we, the body of Christ, can work together to be a powerful force for change in our everyday communities, the places where we work and study. Many of the ideas in it have already been embraced by City Life Church but it is massively encouraging and inspiring to read such a well written article that has received wide support from national organisations such as the Evangelical Alliance.
If you don't get your hands on a copy, then at least fill in the LICC's questionnaire (see below). It is an opportunity to get your voice heard alongside hundreds of others, and used to inform and influence the UK church in a massively positive way. It consists of a few questions about your experience of church and your ideas about how the church could better serve you. And it's on-line, lemon-squeezy!
To fill in the questionnaire go to the EA website and click on 'Imagine'
To get a copy of the article send a cheque for £3.50 (made payable to LICC) to Imagine, LICC, St Peter's, Vere St, London, W1G 0DQ. Include your name and address. Multiple copies are available at a discounted price. Contact paula.cummings@licc.org.uk
