Web Site Editor Wanted

Our web site is the most extensive and public impression of our church. In a month we get up to 80,000 hits from people looking for churches, searching for details about our meetings, listening to the latest message online, asking for theological answers or practical help, and much more. We boast more forum posts than any of the hundreds of other churches using Endis Insight. Our site is the database of church members new and old, used for mail outs, rotas, and the central calendar.

Many people post and update to keep the site ticking over, but one person keeps it all together. The Web Site Editor ensures that the site is worthy of its many tasks, keeping it fresh, accurate and friendly. He or she has an eye on the content, a hand in the memberships and groups, and is available to support members, answer enquiries, as well as develop the site when change is necessary.

CLC is currently looking for a new Web Site Editor to start in July. It is not paid, it is behind the scenes, and yet is one of the most important roles in the day to day running of the church. Do you love the church, love the Internet, and would you be willing to serve by finding the best expression of the one with the other?

the role

1 Editing the site
Content management and moderation, forum moderation, proving information, streamlining and sprucing up content.

2 Membership and security
Dealing with new member applications, setting groups and permissions.

3 Support
Point of contact for site, answering enquiries and complaints, training new users.

4 Development
Sporadically overhauling the site content and structure to keep relevant, steering any new versions of the site in the future.

details

Voluntary position.

Line managed by the Oversight Team.

Starting 1 July 2008, training given in June.

Basic time commitment: an average of 10 minutes a day.

The role will take as much additional time as you can give it when it comes to further development.

your qualities and abilities

It is essential that you are a committed member of the church and are involved in church life: you need to know what is going on. You must be responsible in handling secure information. You need to have excellent written English and an eye for linguistic and visual detail. You must be able to delegate. It is also essential that you have access to check and edit the site for a few minutes every day during the course of a normal week.

Any editorial experience will be an advantage, as would experience of the Insight Web Office, although training can be given in both. Any copywriting, graphic design, photographic or other creative abilities would also be advantageous.

Please note: our web site has an easy-to-use web office behind the scenes. Applicants do not therefore need any programming or graphical expertise at all. Being comfortable with word processing and sending emails would be enough.

how to apply

Please contact Gabriel Smy for an informal chat regarding this position. Applications welcome from all current or (imminently) future members of City Life Church.
