Walking on the Wild Side

Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you know that I've arrived safe and sound in Uganda. It's a lot hotter than we expected but our campsite is on the shores of Lake Victoria and is very beautiful. The boys are older than we expected, mostly around 16, 17. So far we've built tents, had a church service African style, built with bricks and mortar, been to the source of the Nile, bought food in a Kampalan market and generally had a good time. Everywhere we go the local kids run after the truck shouting "Muzungu, muzungu!" which means white man. It's not offensive, they're all just really happy to see us.

If you want to pray for me my arm is playing up again. This is really frustrating as I can't join in a lot of the activities and will be a problem if it's still hurting when we go up Mount Kenya. This is the 3rd day it's been hurting and is actually feeling a lot better but I'd rather it didn't hurt at all. I've become a dab hand at getting in and out the the truck (ex-army so very high) one handed!! I've also managed to catch a cold, would you believe!! I'm also not used to the amount of sleep we're supposed to be surviving on.

That all sounds really bad but I'm enjoying myself so much!

Katharine

Hey Katharine! Glad you're enjoying Uganda babe! The word for white man in Shona is Muzungu too. That's interesting! I'm praying for your arm, and God is awesome, so he'll heal it before you even notice i'm sure! I'm glad i'm going out to Zim soon, otherwise i'd be very jealous of you - you sound like you're having an amazing time!
Stuff here is goos - i only hav one more day of term!! My school is really nice, although my mentor lady is completely nuts, and driving me crazy already - so prayer for my patience and grace to increase quite dramatically would be appreciated!
Speak to you more soon!Love you lots! xxxxx

Hey - cool to hear things are going well! you think the kids are cute...You just wait! you'll soon have little 'mzungu' babies after you: really 'cute' little babies which chase after you screaming "MZUNGU MZUNGU MZUNGU...!!!" with eyes popping out their heads and waving large machete type knives. It brought this grown man to tears...you have been warned!! And DON'T eat dodgy goat cooked in a Kampala market; you're legs will begin to set in the squatting position...;)

will be praying for your arm & God to do His stuff generally, look foward to hearing any updates, Chris

Guess what???? My arm's ok now!! Just after I typed the article above we all went to the pub and my body decided that that would be a great place to have a fever. So instead of sitting in the pub having fun I was lying in the truck feeling pants! Fortunately I think it was my bodies/God's way of telling me I needed some serious sleep and I was fine after a day. Thanks ever so much to everyone who's been praying for me.

Have a fantastic time in Zim Beki. Chris, we have to go to a traditional Ethippean feast where a goat is slaughtered in our honour so you might want to pray for me!! I've managed to ovoid being set in the squatting position so far!

Alan/Trev, thanks for the picture!!

PS The icon is what my skin is doing at the mo!!

Isn't the Source of the Nile just THE most exciting place on the planet? hmm..
Good to hear you're better now.. what else do you need prayer for?
Just a hint.. if you meet any christians, dont tell them what happened in the pub.. they might just think that the fever was a curse picked up from the heathen environment.
