Walking on the Wild Site (Part III)
It is indeed cos I flew home last night. Much has happened since the last report (at this juncture I'd like to point out that the mountain shown was not the one I went up, Mt Kenya is much higher!). While we were in Nairobi in using the internet the students decided to riot (obviously not very well as we didn't see them despite only being a few hundred yards down the street)! The wedding has also happened, a traditional Kikuya wedding in one of the Nairobi slums which is completley unheard of for two white people. We finally headed for the coast on a nightmare 9-hour bus journey with only half an hour spent off the bus but it was worth the wait. The campsite was on the edge of a white sand beach and it was pretty much idylic. We went snorkelling (well I stayed in the boat and got sea-sick!) and horse riding while we were there and generally chilled out. We also made several trips to the souvenir market where I finally got my first drum, after much hard bartering. The end of the trip was crowned by a visit to the Carnivore restaurant where we sampled zebra, crocodile and hartebeast, along with the usual chicken, lamb and beef. At the time I described it as the meal I had been waiting for all my life and I think that's probably true.
Thanks to everyone who's been praying for me. It was the trip of a lifetime and many of us are thinking about going back next year.
Oh, you probably can tell me to get on my truck, though I hope you won't have to very often. I'll leave it to you to judge whether I'm the same Lingwood that left at the end of June.
